TikTok LIVE giveaways: how they work and how to spot fakes
TikTok has a real giveaway feature. It's also full of fakes that want your money or your card details. Here's the difference.
TikTok has an official LIVE Giveaway feature creators use for legit contests, entered in-app with nothing to pay. But fakes are everywhere: copycat accounts, off-platform links, 'pay a shipping fee,' or 'gift to enter' scams. Real giveaways are free and stay inside the app. Never pay, link out, or gift to enter.
Some TikTok LIVE giveaways are real, and a lot of them are scams. TikTok does have an official LIVE Giveaway feature that eligible creators use to run legitimate contests during a stream. But the format is also crawling with fakes: accounts that promise a free iPhone or PS5 if you comment, follow a link, or "send a gift" to enter. Knowing the difference is what keeps you from wasting time or getting phished.

How legit TikTok LIVE giveaways work
With the built-in LIVE Giveaway tool, an eligible creator starts a contest inside their stream, and viewers enter through the official in-app prompt. The winner is drawn within TikTok, and you never have to leave the app, pay anything, or send the creator a "gift" to qualify. If a giveaway uses TikTok's own feature and the creator is verified or clearly established, it's usually the real thing.
The scams to watch for
Most fake TikTok giveaways follow a familiar script. Watch for these red flags:
- A brand-new or copycat account impersonating a real company or celebrity.
- Instructions to click an off-platform link, enter card details, or pay a "shipping fee" to claim a prize.
- Pressure to "gift" the creator coins to enter, that money is real and goes to them, not toward any prize.
- A prize wildly out of proportion to the account's size and history.

How to enter the real ones safely
Stick to giveaways run through TikTok's own feature by creators or brands with a real track record. Never pay, never send a gift to "enter," and never put card details into a page a live stream sent you to. A genuine giveaway is free, and the same holds on Instagram giveaways and every other platform.
Are TikTok giveaways worth it?
The legit ones are fine to enter when you spot them, but like all live giveaways they cost real-time attention, and the scam density makes them lower-value than they look. If you want prizes you can chase on your own schedule from sources that are already vetted, browser sweepstakes are the safer bet.
